Feedback Mega Thread

  • Hello All,

I'm your new Community Communication Manager and I'll be taking over from Salix. If you want to know a little bit more about me have a look at my introduction post

In order for me to get a better understanding of your thoughts on the game, I'd like to make a "mega thread" for you all to openly tell my about your personal feedback in all aspects of Rail Nation.

This can be about anything game specific, though I'm very interested to get your feedback on the following topics:

    • Community activities - forum events, Facebook events, giveaways etc
    • Our social media presence and communication platforms - blogs, forum etc
    • How we communicate information to you - type of info, how often etc
    • Constant and continuous issues in-game - bugs, servers etc

I'm open to hearing your feedback and suggestions on these topics. Tell us how we could improve things or tell us what aspects you currently enjoy. If someone has already raised a topic that you wanted to point out, make sure to like their post so that I know it is also felt by others in the community.

Also feel free to post in your own language if you don't feel comfortable posting in English (though English would greatly help me). The CM team will be on hand to help me translate any posts I don't understand myself.

However I want to set your expectations early. I do not promise to address/resolve/respond to all the topics/issues raised in this thread.

The aim of this thread is to give me a better understanding of what needs work and where possible, take onboard your feedback. I'm expecting there to be a lot of feedback and as you can imagine, realistically getting everything addressed is unlikely. Yet it's crucial that we are aware of the feedback so that we can better support you and prioritise what we do long term.

So don't lose heart if your topic doesn't get a response. I assure you that I'm watching and listening to everything you are saying.

Many thanks in advance to everyone who contributes. I truly appreciate your input,

    Nikki

  • Welcome!

We players want a few "easy" things:

    1) Game without bugs (with much less)

    2) New and smooth messaging system (in the game)

    3) Please do not turn the game into Pay2Win!

    4) Timely information in the forum about changed rules / formulas in the game

    5) Effective fight against multi-accounts (clones). At least against the obvious!

    6) Better conditions for newcomers to the game!

  • Hi Nikki. First of all: Welcome to our community.

Maybe I misunderstood, but I think you are German and live in Germany. So my first question is:

Will you do your introduction and a thread like this in the German forum too?

I really appreciate that you started in English, as very often I feel, us Germans get the information first, and though (my opinion) discussions in English forum are so much cooler, I would love to see you introduced to my German friends too.

    My second question:

Looks like you are one of those to sit between the two chairs: between us customers (well, when I hear "community" the picture in my head shows the community of customers and forum and fb users) and the company. Salix often could not answer quickly, cause he had so many internal tasks to do. So the question is: on your position between customers and company ... where are you looking at most of your time?

One big theme will be: the bugs. There are so many here in the forum, users, workers, programmers, IT specialists, normal people using software ... whose experience is to shout and blame even few bugs. Or expect, bugs to be fixed within the same year (too often: fix that till tomorrow morning or pay the fine for breaking the contract). Well, I know, the F2P business model gives you more freedom, more excuses, more rights ... but wouldn't you agree, that a number of bugs that goes into the hundreds, is not a good base for a good partnership between customer community and the company?

And something that HMR mentioned already: RN is a strategy game that very much builds groups of players (customers): associations, cities, regions, friendships, fractions ... so communication between players is essential. But neither the ingame chat nor the news system are by any means only acceptable. Both create some letters, somtimes to rarely, but most of the time they are unable to chat with or to give information to others (and find it back). So, a big PLEASE: please put in all your influence to make the team create something, that we can communicate with. And please put that on top priority.

OK, I will stop here. I am called a novel writer in this forum. Too long, too much. So I will stop at 4 topics today.

Thanks for your introduction ... and have fun in your new job ... be sure, we are all friendly, all enthusiastic RN players, ... but that might be the reason, why we sometimes (rarely) shout and cry and whine ...

Frei nach Führungscoach Sandra von Oehsen. Zwei Fragen, die sich Unternehmen stellen sollten:

Was können unsere Kunden von uns lernen?

Und was können unsere Kunden von uns lernen, was sie gar nicht lernen sollen?

  • Salix often could not answer quickly, cause he had so many internal tasks to do. So the question is: on your position between customers and company ... where are you looking at most of your time?

I wont steal the other questions from Nikki, but this one:
Nikki won't be in the same situation as me. For a long time, I was essentially doing two jobs at the same time, which greatly limited my available time. Nikki will not be in that situation.
But it's also important to say that the job as CCM is a strategic job, not on operational one, so, at least in theory, a CCM should act through the CMs instead of doing everything herself (which wouldn't be possible anyway).
So don't expect Nikki to be there all the time, she still has a lot of strategic tasks to take care of. But, like I said: She will most definitely have more time available than I did and I'm already really excited about her plans.

  • One thing I noticed the game doesn't have is a view for the player on what is being hauled by him. We get total tons hauled for a good if we are in top 5 for title otherwise you don't know, how close you were or how much you are hauling.

    Basically some analytics.

  • Thanks for taking the time to let me know about these.

for 4) do you have any examples for what you like? or what works well?

for 2) I don't suppose you'd have any examples of other systems you like using? or suggestions on what could work better?

I'm looking forward to seeing what you might have in mind

  • Thank you for the warm welcome,

    1) I am unfortunately, painfully English. Though I do live in Germany, I've been here for about 5 years now and I've slowly been learning the language. Though covid has taken away a lot of my chances to practice, I'm hoping to rapidly improve that now that a lot of my new colleagues are German, as well as large group of the community.

    2) I will mostly be focusing on how we communicate with the community, on all platforms and for different topics. This can be anything from events, in-game events, changes, promotions etc. Salix will focus more on project/product management. This means that I'll be more accessible to the community, but still not able to respond instantaneously due to working on improving our communication etc.

    3) As I've only been on the Rail Nation team since the start of December, I don't have a solid grasp of the situation with the bugs or how big the issues are. I do however know that I'm working on improving our communication on these topics so that if for whatever reason we can't fix something in a timely manor, we can at least make it clear why we can't and also make that information available everywhere in order to keep as many people informed as possible. I'm hoping that this is at least a good starting point

    4) I know that communication is a big topic currently. I'm currently working with the CM Team Lead to see if there's any better options for improving our communication with you all first. After that, we're hoping to have better access to the topics raised by the community so that we may better understand exactly how they are impacting people experiences. That way we'll have more to work with when taking idea's and suggestions forward.

I hope this helps settle a few of your concerns for now. As I get more involved in my new role, I'm sure you'll be hearing a lot more from me on some of these topics.

  • 2) New and smooth messaging system (in the game)

This is a good example. New in-game messaging system!

    Neues Messaging-System im Spiel!

    4) Timely information in the forum about changed rules / formulas in the game

This is a good example. Changelog HTML5 v1 (DE)

There must be such information before any change!

And to be if not in all languages, then at least in all major languages in the game.

    6) Better conditions for newcomers to the game!

This is a good example. Rail Nation - The Champions!

  • here's a few Ideas

    1) Take down the bonus engines from game store make them more regular prizes for everyone, not just for those with money

    2) Remove buying lotto tickets with gold

    3) Remove tracks that link to other regions, so people can't got from one region to an other

    4) Have the competitions only to those who have the city set to home city, that way we don't have other cities taking our PP

    5) Remove instant build from all station buildings

    6) Remove the notification of who just won the gold rush. TBH i don't care who won it

I believe in fair gaming and this only caters those who buy their way through it, those who can't never have have a chance. This is a great game for kids as its so easy to play, but those with money dictate and run the show. doing this puts everyone on an even balance and we may get to see some new people leading not just big gold players.

  • take away the limit on videos, or introduce a "tick box" in the bonus buildings so players can choose themselves to watch/not watch due to online/offline times.

bug fixing would be great, there are still bugs reported over 4 YEARS still present in game even after the change from flash to html5.

  • In 3 days, they put in a button to start watching videos because it suited them.

Apart from the fact that they extended the time of watching movies for players (external programs "click" faster), for years they could not introduce other, simple and banal corrections.

Sorry, they don't deal with these errors at all.

  • Would not buy and will not spend another penny until the game is improved. Not just the bugs, but, also the game play problems and the game rules need addressing. Sad, because the game is basically a very good concept with the potential to be a lot of fun.

In this world there is nothing softer or thinner than Water.

But to compel the Hard and Unyielding it has no equal.

    I fully completely agree!

  • howdy guys,

the game is great especially locomotives theme - perfect.

The only little issue is why some resources has quiet weird name? Is it reason to look different than most of out games, perhaps?

The translation is a bit interesting. E.G. why LOGs are named as lumber while

    LUMBER is named as boards?

And also, the game has problems to load, see & read message, pick bonuses for other asociation members, etc. past 2 weeks (basically, since last update) its pain to be honest. If you could fix it, we would appreciate very much!
