    FAQ FORUM MERGER

    When?
    The forum merger will start on September 18th and we aim to be finished by September 30st.

    What should I do before the merger?

    If you haven’t logged onto the forum for a long time, you should do so.
    Reminder: We are going to delete all forum accounts that have not been active in the past 365 days (no logins).
    Since the new forum will be connected to the Rail Nation lobby, your forum account has to be registered on the same email address as your lobby account. If you have accounts on different forums, please check all entered addresses and change them if needed. After the forum merger you will be allowed to use only one account and it won’t be possible to merge the accounts manually after the forum merger is complete.


    I have multiple accounts on different forums; which nickname will be assigned to me?
    We will merge one forum after another; this means that you will get the nickname_suffix of the forum we merge first. Potential moved posts of the additional accounts will be merged to that nickname. After the merger is complete, you will have the chance to change your nickname.
    Example: William registered an account in the international Rail Nation forum (COM). His nickname after the merger will be William_COM
    He also has an account in France with the same email and the French forum is merged after the COM forum. After the second merger the nickname will stay as William_COM and potential posts from the FR forum will be connected to this account as well.
    In Germany, there is also a forum account named William, but with a different email address. After the merger this account will be named William_DE.


    What if my nickname is already taken?
    As we mentioned in the announcement, all the account names will get the country tag as a suffix in order to avoid duplicates. You will then be able to change your nickname into a new one if you wish. If another user claims the nickname you wanted to use before you are able to change it, please contact the community manager of your country, and they will evaluate the situation and take a decision.


    How can I log in if I do not know which nickname has been assigned to me?
    Since the forum will be integrated into the Rail Nation lobby, you won’t have to login separately for the forum any longer. As soon as you enter the lobby, you will also be logged into the forum.


    What will happen to my post count?
    We are not going to import all the post from current forums onto the new forum, so the post count will likely be reset. Once the forum merger is complete, we will recalculate all the counters and you will be assigned a post count depending on how many of your posts have been moved to the new forum. There will be a new statistic for the profiles, called activity points, which will also be recalculated after the forum merger.


    What are activity points?
    We want to value our community members in accordance with their contribution to the community. For this reason, we will place emphasis on the activity points in the profile. You will be assigned with 10 points for each new thread you start, 5 points for each post in an opened discussion and 2 points for each like you receive.
    Please note: we will assign points only in the section related directly with the game, so the station concourse (offtopic section) is excluded for example.


    What will happen to my private messages and notes?
    Unfortunately, we are not able to merge these onto the new forum, so your private messages and notes will be gone. Save anything that you wish to keep for yourself.


    Why don’t you just merge all topics and threads?
    Since we want the new forum to be as light and transparent an easy accessible as possible for everyone we do not merge the complete current forums into the new version. Only topics that have been marked as important by the community managers will be merged. E.g. changelogs, tutorials etc. This way we can start with a fresh and nice forum.


    What about the old stuff that you are not bringing onto the new forum?
    We are working on an archive solution for a read-only version of the current forums. This solution won’t be available straight after the forum merger, but it will come soon after. We do not have an ETA yet, but we aim to have the solution in place by no later than the end of the year.


    What is the multilingualism feature?
    This is a Burning Board feature that assigns user-generated content to a specific language, allowing different languages to be used in a single community. The forum will be unique and you won’t see any country forums. This means if you have selected more than one language in your profile, you will see every thread for all those languages. They will be marked with a country flag when you enter the General section. If you have selected only one language, you will only see the threads for that language.


    Examples:
    If you select English UK as the interface language and English UK and French as languages in your profile:
    You will see the interface of the forum as well as the section titles and descriptions in English
    When you enter a specific section you will see the threads for the UK community with a UK flag and the threads for the FR community with a FR flag
    If you select English UK as the interface language and English UK as the language:
    You will see the interface of the forum as well as the section titles and descriptions in English and only the threads of the English UK community without any flags.
    The default language for your profile is retained.


    How many languages can I see at the same time?
    If you want, you can select all languages, but be careful to select the right language in the drop-down menu when you post a new thread.


    Will the interface be available in my language?
    The interface (buttons, profile interface, etc...) will be available only in the following languages at the beginning: COM (EN), CZ, DE, ES, FR, IT, NL, PL, RO, RU, TR. The Nordic countries (SE, FI, DK, NO) will be integrated into the COM domain. If you are willing to help us translate the interface please contact the Community Manager of your community.


    How will the forum look like?


    Dear community,


    the time has come to move to a new forum platform. Why are we doing this?


    The necessity of it became quite clear a while ago. You might remember what happened last September, when we had to close our forums for over a week to solve a security issue. The main reason for the change is to have stronger data protection. Burning Board offers us more options for a secure environment, which is why we've decided to use it as company platform for all our games.


    Furthermore, we want our forums to be more embedded into the game environment. Currently those are two clearly separated places. Thus, we’re moving the forum into our game lobby, so you won’t need to login twice anymore and can take part in forum discussion with your game account.


    Last, but not least, we’d like to have our communities of the different domains closer to each other. We know many of you play in different countries and we’d like to offer you the chance to have a single platform from which you can gather all the information.

    So here is some technical information:

    • Since we want to provide a fresh start from scratch for everyone in the new forum, we will only move some selected threads (including all the posts in it). This selection includes: changelogs, the latest announcements, hall of fames and other topics selected by our Community Managers.
    • We will move all the forum accounts that were accessed at least once in the past 365 days.
    • All the account names will get the country tag as a suffix in order to avoid duplicates. You will then be able to change your nickname into a new one if you like.
    • You will be able to access the forum with your game account. So, if you want to have your Rail Nation account linked with one or more existing forum accounts, please make sure that you use the same email address in the lobby and in every single forum you are active in. It won’t be possible to merge them anymore after we started the process.
    • All images attached to post in selected threads will be saved and moved to the new forum.
    • All personal avatars will be moved.
    • All warnings and a possible temporary punishment history will be gone; it’s a fresh start, so make sure you profit from this chance.
    • There will be international community guidelines that may in some details differ from the rules you are used to. Please make sure to read them.



    One forum to rule them all! How does this work?
    It’s pretty easy: Once the forum was merged your account will be assigned to your community inside the new forum and you will see the posts of that community. You can go to your profile and change your settings to add more languages and see the posts of more communities. If you have more languages activated when you start a new thread, you will be able to choose in which community you want to write by selecting the language/domain in a drop-down menu.
    We fully realize that some of you won’t be happy with this change and that you like your current forum. We want to be honest with you, which is why we are not trying to sell you a nice epic story with a 'And they lived happily ever after'. We've analyzed the pros and cons of moving and merging the forums and we’d like to be transparent and share our findings with you.


    Pros of the forum merger:

    • The security level of the forum will be improved – no more hacking
    • Worldwide communication – the forum merger is a step to improve our communication flow to you and also the communication flow from you to the company
    • You'll have the chance to get in touch easier with more people and learn from other countries
    • You won’t need to have one account in each forum of every community you play in anymore; you'll have only one account and everything will be at hand.
    • You do not have to register an account separately. As soon as you have a lobby account you can also enter the forum with it.
    • You'll be able to gain activity points – these points show your levels of participation and contribution to the community. You can gain activity points by starting new threads (10 points), answering existing threads (5 points) and receiving likes for your posts (2 points). The most helpful posts can be even rewarded with 20 points.
    • Burning Board offers a better way to sort threads in a specific section. Using the filter will help you to find what you are searching for much quicker.
    • More social interaction - you'll be able to share your favorite thread with your friends on social media with just one click.
    • You'll be able to keep track of activity on threads you are interested in way easier with the 'Watched Threads' page.
    • It’s a fresh start from scratch for everyone. So, punishments will be blanked as well.



    Cons of the forum merger:

    • We'll need to clean up. As mentioned above, we will only move some selected activities of the past year to the new forum, everything else will be available by the end of the year in a read-only archive.
    • Your post count will be reset due to the fact that we are not merging the entire community's history – but on the other side you'll be able to gain activity points. A little number of posts may appear in your profile. That depends on the threads we moved .
    • The station concourse (off topic section) won’t have a post count – we do value our community and we also like chit-chat, but we do not think this directly contributes to Rail Nation life, therefore we decided to remove the post count and activity points in this section.
    • You'll have to learn how to use a new software and it might be difficult at the beginning and get used to the new interface – we will try to provide as much information as possible in our FAQs.
    • All custom BBcodes will no longer work, which might lead to some posts looking a bit odd
    • There is a slight chance that your nickname is taken by another user – in this case you should get in touch with the CM of your community, who will evaluate the situation.
    • The interface (buttons, profile interface, etc...) will be available only in the following languages at the start: COM (EN), CZ, DE, ES, FR, IT, NL, PL, RO, RU, TR - if you are willing to help us translate the interface please contact the CM of your community. The Nordics (FI, SE, NO, DK) will be officially integrated into the COM domain.
    • All private messages and notes will be gone – so make sure to save those that matter to you.



    We are sure by now you must have thought about 50 time: "OK, but when?"
    We will start merging the forums on September 18th. We will close all forums on this date and we are aiming to bring them back online by September 30th. Wait, what??? Yes, we know it’s a long time and we hope everything works as planned and we can bring them back online before that date.

    With the new PLUS account, we asked questions and listened to your feedback. We selected the features, based on the volume of requests, game balancing, player benefits and sustainable business opportunities. It is designed to provide more comfort, but you can achieve everything without spending money. Additionally, we introduced many new features, such as the career train earlier this year – and there are more to come.

    First of all, we'd like to thank you all for reporting the bugs you found. Thanks to your help we're able to continue improving the game. We believe that this little guide should help you resolve the most stubborn problems. In the event that the issue isn't resolved, you may open a new thread. Please use the search function before doing so. This way we can keep the section tidy.


    1.) Delete cookies and clear the browser cache
    This is particularly advantageous after an update. Please make sure that you only clear the cookies from Rail Nation. All other cookies may be kept. Also bear in mind that clearing your cookies will mean that you'll have to log in anew.

    Mozilla Firefox:
    The browser settings can be changed using the menu on the right hand side. The included guide applies to Firefox Version 9 and newer versions. All of the links lead to the official Firefox FAQ.

    Opera:
    Click on 'Clear internet files' in the 'Extras' menu. In the menu which then follows, you have to click 'Personal selection'. As already mentioned, only the Rail Nation cookies need to be removed. Then click on the 'Manage cookies' button in the 'Clear all cookies' field. In the newly opened window, select the Rail Nation cookies by clicking the left mouse button and then click the 'Clear' button on the right. The window can now be closed. After that, the 'Clear complete cache' function should be selected. Finally click 'Clear' at the bottom.


    Safari:
    Select the 'Safari' icon in the menu and then click on 'Settings' (or use the shortcut: 'Ctrl' + ','). In the newly opened window select the 'Data privacy' tab and then 'Details'. Look for the Rail Nation cookies here, mark them by left clicking on them and delete them using the 'Remove' button. Finally, click 'Finish'.
    To clear the cache, use the following shortcut: 'Alt' + 'Ctrl' + 'E' or select the 'Safari' icon in the menu and then 'Clear cache'.

    Checking the version of Flash
    Rail Nation always works with the most up-to-date version of Flash. Correct installation and the version can be checked at the following site:http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ In addition to that, the latest version of Flash can be downloaded from http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/otherversions/. The offered security software is optional and can be deactivated.


    Clearing the Flash cache

    Screenshots in Windows:
    First, press the 'PrintScr' button on your keyboard. Then open Microsoft Paint (Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Paint (or simply use the search function)). By pressing 'Ctrl' + 'V' you will place the screenshot in Paint. After that, save the image as a PNG or JPG file with a name of your choice.

    You can take a screenshot by pressing: 'CMD' + 'Shift' + '4'. If you want to capture the same window, this can be done by pressing: 'CMD' + 'Shift' + '4' + 'Clear'. Press and hold the buttons after each other, because pressing all four buttons at once won't work.


    After that, attach the image to your post. Please do not use any public image hosting sites!

    Dear players, maybe you have a great idea to create a fan-site project. We are really happy that you have such great ideas and we appreciate your work on it. To prevent any problems or legal effects, we want to give you a small guideline with "Do's" and "Don't do's" that may help you create your own great fan site:

    Do's:

    • You are allowed to use the games name, Rail Nation Logos, texts and images if you mention Travian Games as holder of all content-related rights in your imprint
    • You are allowed to create your web design based on the original Rail Nation design but you should not copy it one-to-one. Texts and layout have to communicate obviously that Travian Games is not the provider of the fan-site, does not control its content, and is by no means affiliated with the site or its owner.



    Don't do's:
    Your site must neither contain illegal or offending content nor must it infringe our or a third parties rights. That being said, you are especially not allowed to:

    • Fake a "login page" which makes a player believe that it's an original Rail Nation page
    • You are not allowed to create logins that redirect players to the game itself


    Besides, you are not allowed to:

    • Your site must not contain advertising in any form (e.g. Google ads, banner advertisings, pop-up windows)
    • You are not allowed to use Rail Nation contents for making money (neither your fan-site should be a commercial service nor charge any costs from users)
    • The site must not promote, encourage, suggest or otherwise enable breaking of the game rules, or break the game rules itself. The site must not suggest, encourage, promote or provide links to or information on locating bots, browser addons/scripts, greasemonkey scripts, or any other means of violating Rail Nation rules.



    If your fan-site project does not comply with these guidelines or in case of any doubt we reserve the right to deny or cancel our permission of content usage at any time! This list may be amended. Please check it regularly because your site must comply with the current status of this list.
